Cancer is a widely used term for any form of malignant tumour. It is characterised by an uncontrolled and abnormal growth of cells, which invade surrounding tissues and destroy them. Cancer cells may spread throughout the body via the bloodstream or lymphatic system, a process known as metastasis, and set up secondary growths.
